December 22/10  PCS Christmas Cracker Recap

In Silver Tide pre-Christmas tradition, the TAG and Senior groups flew to Victoria for another weekend of fast and tough racing. With JP Fiset right before, the Tides ended up racing seven days out of ten. It can definitely be a challenge to race so much so quickly but I was very proud to see that everyone didn't just deal with racing that much but used it as an opportunity to perform better than ever. Victoria brought out many of the best Tide swimming of the season.

Emma Funk gets the first mention for really breaking down a wall over the weekend. Beating a best time in one event that you haven't been able to beat in months is a real accomplishment. Emma achieved this in nine events. She wasn't the only swimmer to pull off this feat.

Karlyn Elford really hit her stride over the weekend and swam some fantastic races to also break many stubborn best times.

While we're on the topic of tough racing; how about Mark Toma? Racing hard and posting best times is good. Doing it with a busted foot is plain heroic (I hope the foot is feeling better now).

Last but not least, the Tides left Victoria with nine new club records. They were:
Megan Martin                                             100/200 BK
Nadine Williams                                          800 FR   (15-17 and senior categories)
Kevin Labonte                                            800 FR
Matt Whiteside                                           100/200 BR and 400 IM

Extra special congratulations to Matt as he managed to break some of the oldest records on the books set by one Josh Pun.
That's a lot of action in the pool but the action outside of it might have been even better. Silver Tide had the best team spirit and presence at the meet and I can prove it. We were cheering so hard and loud that some of the girls landed an interview for it with A Channel in Victoria. Congratulations to Karlyn for being the first person to get up and get a cheer going every time, to Halle for cheering so long and loud that she lost her voice and to Lauren for bringing her broken body all the way to Victoria and being an incredibly positive and immensely helpful presence from the start of the meet to the finish. I want to congratulate everyone at the meet for all showing some truly first class swimming and some truly first class team spirit and presence.

Finally, special thanks to Ian Williams and Andrew Swinton for keeping everyone fed, rested, happy and racing fast throughout the weekend.

Go Tide!
