June 14 / 11       Competitive racing suits (LZR Elite and LZR Pro)

    Hi everyone,

Attached is a flyer for the famous Speedo-brand performance racing suits. This is a good chance for me to pass on some sale information as well as a little information about when to buy these racing suits. These suits are intended for racing at a fairly high level. It is also slightly dependant on your financial ability to buy these suits, but these suits are the top-of-the-line and really do have an effect on performance results. For most of you, this email is just a glimpse to the distant (but here before you know it) future in swimming.

From novice until 13-14 A Provincials, there is never a need to upgrade from the standard Speedo Aquablade suits that are sold through STSC with our logo. Swimmers who are reaching the top of the provincial rankings may begin thinking about upgrading to the intermediate-level suits like the Speedo FS Pro and LZR Pro suits.

From 13-14 A Provincials to 14+ Age Group Nationals, there is never a need to upgrade beyond the intermediate-level suits. Swimmers who are reaching the top of the Age Group National rankings may begin to think about upgrading to the high performance suits, like the LZR Elite.

Beginning at the Senior National level, swimmers should have at the very least an intermediate-level performance suit. There are dozens of brands and suits within those brands  and each one fits a little differently. You should expect to purchase 2-3 suits per season, and in the beginning you may not like every suit you purchase. By trying different suits and maybe trying one on from a friend, you will eventually find one that you love. But, swimmers may have to live with a slightly uncomfortable fit until their parents are ready to replace a current purchase; and parents will likewise have to live with the fact that the money spent on some suits will be part of the process of finding the right suit, and not necessarily the perfect suit on the first try.

When you have questions, ask a coach. Often with suits, it is a good idea to talk to swimmers who are currently purchasing / wearing those suits. You can get great advice from senior swimmers and friends from other teams.
