Autumn Chmilar stands on stage with coach Maciek Zielnik after cutting off all of her long hair

Beginning in January 2011, the age group swimmers of Silver Tide Swim Club started a Head-Shave for Cancer fundraiser - an idea started by assistant Head Coach Maciek Zielnik to get the team involved in a team building exercise that would ultimately benefit others and show off the great character that is growing in a small Sherwood Park, Alberta swim team.

The original goal was to raise $5000 for cancer research, and on March 4th, 2011 we had volunteer stylists from Pure Elements (Edmonton) come out to Millennium Place in Sherwood Park to shave and cut hair off of 25 Silver Tide members. Much of the hair was also donated, but the proudest story was that the swimmers were able to more than triple their goal by closing the fundraiser with over $16,000 raised for cancer research. Autumn Chmilar, 9, of Sherwood Park was the top fundraiser collecting over $3,400 and shaving her long head of hair as well.

The Silver Tide swimmers proudly represented the swimming community as bright and thoughtful kids who are destined to be leaders in their lives.

Congratulations for a great charity fundraising effort.
