Big Finale for STSC
swimmers
Finishing the season off (that's right - some of
our swimmers have
competed right through to late-August!),
Nadine Williams and
Karlyn Elford had great
performances to close out the season.
Nadine
competed on the
Canadian National Team at the Pan Pacific Games in Irvine, California.
This is the peak competition for the USA, Australia, Japan and Canada,
among other nations, for the 2009-2010 season, and so swimmers like
Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Ryan Cochrane, Katie Ziegler and
Rebecca Soni were on the
very top of their game. This was Nadine's
first full participation on a national team, and she made a clear mark
on it. She swam the 800
Free in 8:51.46, less than
1-sec from being the fastest overall swimmer in Canada. She then
followed up with the best open water 10-km race of her career, finishing
9th overall in one of the
fastest international fields ever assembled. The women in this race
were actually ahead of the men until almost 5-km, and
Dini was head-to-head with
those girls all the way.
Karlyn
competed in the
Canadian National Championships for Triathlon in Kelowna, BC. This is
the biggest competition in Canada for triathletes like
Simon Whitfield and
Paula Findlay. The race
was a strong showing for
Karlyn, who
finished in 13th place, highlighted
by a 3rd place split
at the swimming segment of the race.
Karlyn raced here after a
long successful summer of swimming, including an
open water 5-km gold medal at
Age Group Nationals in July.
Congratulations,
girls! Silver Tide is very proud to support and benefit from having
such great examples in our senior group!
